August 9, 2010 TO THE NURSES & STAFF AT FAIRVIEW Thank you for caring for Alma. Caring meant so much more than merely seeing to her needs. In my Mom’s case “caring’ meant giving and loving. I never doubted that ‘love’ was a missing ingredient as you cared for her. I am so glad that we could bring her home to Fairview to spend her final hours. Thank you all! Ken & Laurie Hinrichs. July 23, 2010 David Brown Director of Development Fairview Odd Fellows Home of CT 235 Lestertown Road Groton, CT 06340 Dear David: I am writing to express my appreciation for the excellent care given to Greg during the five months he lived at Fairview. It has been very inspiring to observe the competent, caring and cheerful staff as they help each resident and respond to their individual needs. Everything about Fairview is designed to make living there as interesting as possible. The Library, the recreation room and patio, numerous sitting rooms, the Bistro, the courtyard, the beautiful grounds and that marvelous view all add a very special quality to life there. And the range of daily activities is amazing. A contribution is enclosed in appreciation of the high quality of your staff who made Greg’s final days as comfortable as possible. Sincerely, Nancy Hileman June 21, 2010 Mr. James K. Malloy Fairview-Odd Fellows Home of CT 235 Lestertown Rd. Groton, CT 06340 Dear Mr. Malloy: I am writing on behalf of the family of Dolores and Richard Steinreich. We would like to thank the entire staff of Fairview for the exceptional care that was given to our father and mother over the past 3 years. Mere words cannot express the gratitude we have for the Fairview employees from every department. Our parents were treated with sincere kindness, compassion, patience and respect. We will never forget the Fairview “family.” God bless you all. Sincerely, Donna Gregory Lynn Macdonald November 4, 2009 Mr. James Malloy Fairview Administrator Jim, I wish to express my (and my entire family’s) sincerest thanks for the excellent professional care which was extended to my dear wife over the past 18 month or so. I note that almost universally the staff expressed genuine concern and affection for her. As her constant companion, I had the opportunity to at first console her when she was being changed and washed when she was in pain with arthritis to at times actually helping and participating in her care. Since I was caring for her for 2 ½ years before she was admitted I had some experience with the procedures and she felt secure when I was present. I have had occasion to have visited 5 different nursing homes where my father, sister, mother-in-law, and friends were patients, and none held a candle to the professional conduct of the entire staff and the cleanliness standards which are found at Fairview. There were very few instances where I thought some improvement might have been made, but then I don’t have the experience or background to understand all the untended consequences which might arise to negate the possible changes required to correct the perceived deficiencies. In summary I commend you for running a first-class institution. Robert A. Rubega PhD TO ALL STAFF AT FAIRVIEW: We want to thank all who provided care to our mother, Mary Aiello, and to us during her almost ten years of residing at Fairview. The dedication the staff shows to all residents is a wonder to see. There are many angels in your building. Thank you for all you have done. The Family of Mary Aiello FAIRVIEW STAFF – 3-16-09 This gift ($1,000.00) is in memory of Lois M. Turnquist who passed away on January 24, 2009 in your facility. The care you provided for my Mom in her last weeks was extraordinary. Susan Turnquist
TO THE STAFF AT FAIRVIEW I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for what all of you provided to my Dad, Bill LaFleur. He and I entered your facility in March of 2006. We were anxious, a bit frightened and quite overwhelmed. You as a staff worked your hardest to make us feel comfortable and at ease. You quickly succeeded. By the second week Dad felt at home and told me, he “liked it here” and never wavered from that thought. For the last two plus years he felt at home in his “apartment”, comfortable and secure. For the next two plus years he never once had a significant complaint or offered any suggestion that he should go any place other than Fairview. He was happy and content. As strange as it may seem to me, he loved it there. It was home. One might ask, how this could be so at a nursing home. The answer in this case is simple, it is the wonderful staff. You appreciated and understood his sense of humor; you smiled at his butchered Canadian French, and made a big deal when offered hard candy. You gave him professional care, support, and most important love. He received and responded in kind. I cannot express my gratitude for the care and attention my Dad received. He and I were greeted with smiles and treated with kindness and respect. I am today, amazed at how this staff can provide all that you do on a daily basis, day in and day out working with some of the neediest of our population. I could not do this, and hold you in the highest regard. Words will never express my appreciation and thanks for all of you. Sincerely, Bill LaFleur A CARD OF THANKS TO THE STAFF AT FAIRVIEW From the family of JOSEPH HAHN 08/23/1917 – 01/01/2008 (as published in The New London Day 1/26/08) The words are hard to find to express our gratitude for the care given to our Dad, or as you called him, “Papa Joe”. To Roberta, (aka Veronica) and Joanne a heartfelt thanks for your immeasurable kindness. Dad looked to you for comfort when we could not be there, and you gave it without hesitation, for your playful bantering that always made him laugh, for soothing him when no one else could, and always making our departures a little less painful. To Marian, Deb, Det, Linda, Gladys, Kathy, Julie, Lisa, “Ishy” and all who attended to Dad, we thank you for the GENUINE kindness and respect that you showed him. The compassion with which you do your jobs is to be applauded and will never be forgotten. To Cindy, we were so touched by your thoughtfulness in giving him a “retirement” party. Thank you so much. To Liz with Beacon Hospice for our conversations and phone calls letting us know you were available if we needed you. To Karen, also with Beacon, for the time and love you gave to your “True Gentleman”. Dad loved spending time with you too. Thank you. To Drs. Christopher Morren and Edward McDermott, thank you for your compassion and guidance on this journey. YOU ARE ALL TRULY THE BEST OF THE BEST! Sincerely, Joe’s Kids Administrator Fairview 235 Lestertown Road Groton, CT 06340 Re: Lennart Carlson Resident Dear Sir: Good morning. I recently attended a patient care conference on my brother which went well. During that time I had the opportunity to give accolades on the care my brother receives. CNA’s were not represented but I notice each time I go to Fairview that the care is top notch. As a clinical social work consultant to nursing homes over the years, I get reminded each time I go with my sister Irene (retired nurse) that Fairview is clean, odor control tops, people nurturing and aiding folks with professional expertise, and a host of other care giving activity going on. Thanks for being there for Len. Pass it on, please. David Carlson 10-21-07 Fairview Staff Thank you for the wonderful daily care my Dad received. I’m sure it’s hard for any family to put a mom or dad in a nursing home. What a blessing that we found Fairview and your compassionate care as a result. From day one to the end you were attentive, remembering names (and there were many of us), and took good care of my/our Dad. Thank you. Kathleen & the entire Quinn Family Mr. James K. Malloy Administrator Fairview Groton, CT 06340 Dear Sir: Despite a thoroughly broken leg, my recent two week stay at Fairview was a pleasant interval. I was very impressed with the beautiful facility and quality of care given by the excellent personnel. My room, 103, was sunny and bright, clear and comfortable. The lounge, sunroom, greenhouse, and beautifully furnished library were all fine additions. The Bistro and lovely patio were excellent ideas very well executed. Best of all, for me at least, the therapy room – sunny, bright, beautifully equipped, warm, up-beat atmosphere…kudos to Jane, Chris, Dot, Brenda and all…dispensing with wit and charm their extensive knowledge of all things therapy. All the fine professionals there were a credit to Fairview…kind, patient, informative, and really good natured. Many thanks and best wishes to Deshon, Karen, Pat, Sue, Suzette, Sandra, Mona, Lore, Steve, Lance, Joel, Rob, Heather, Helen, Nadine, Kim…and all others whose names escape me just now. Congratulations to you and your staff on maintaining this very fine “Home.” May you all have many successful years ahead. Sincerely, Shirley M. Sharp “We received your card today and it was most thoughtful and greatly appreciated; just one more loving gesture from your staff, one of the greatest groups of folks that we have ever met. We wish to thank you for the loving care and help that you provided for our Mother while she was at Fairview. We have never seen care as great as what you provide for the elderly folk who need just such a caring and wonderful atmosphere. We have been most fortunate to have found you when we were in need. Please accept our thanks and gratitude for the staff that helped our Mother when she needed it the most.” Allan and Geraldine Wirkala; David Wirkala
