Fairview employee Mali McGillivray was recently honored as the Employee of the Year at Fairview.  Mali has worked in the Laundry Department for over seventeen years.  She was chosen from five other employees who were nominated by department heads.  Mali has an impeccable attendance record, has been an active member of the culture change initiative, and continuously displays a superior caring attitude towards residents.  Mali will receive a week long stay at a time share condominium in Yarmouth, MA on Cape Cod.  The condo was donated to Fairview by long-time Odd Fellow member and former Fairview Board member Vincent Barbieri.  The other five employees who were nominated received a letter of congratulations for being nominated and $25.00 from Fairview Administrator James Malloy.

 

Pfizer, Inc. recently made a $2,000.00 donation to Fairview to help pay for the ongoing implementation of our electronic medical records system.  Pictured presenting a check to David Brown, Director of Development at Fairview, is Monica Tijerina, Manager of Community Affairs at Pfizer.

The Groton Rotary presented a $500.00 check to Fairview on August 10 to help pay for the purchase of a Panacea Air Advance Mattress.  This is a high-tech mattress designed to provide alternating pressure relief for up to Stage IV wounds.  Pictured representing Fairview at the check presentation at the August monthly meeting is Fairview Director of Nursing, Deb Morgan, and Groton Rotary President, R.B. The Savings Institute Bank & Trust provided a grant to Fairview on August 5, 2010 to purchase a blanket and towel warmer for our residents.  The bank has been a supporter of Fairview for many years.  Pictured (L-R) presenting the check in one of Fairview’s courtyards is Kelly Mucci, Assistant VP for Business Development at The Savings Institute, Jim Malloy, Fairview Administrator, and David Brown, Fairview Director of Development.

The Fairview car raffle was a great success.  The drawing took place on July 10.  This year’s winner was Nancy Spigel from Ledyard, CT.  In total 424 tickets were sold for a net profit of $23,912.00.  This is the most Fairview has ever made from the raffle now in its fifth year.  All proceeds will be used to help pay for the ongoing expense of our electronic medical records system.  Congratulations Nancy!

 

Welcome Rebekah Lodge #47 has made a significant $6,000.00 donation to Fairview. This gift was used to purchase 10 Oxygen Concentrators.   Fairview had been renting these tanks at a much higher cost.  Pictured demonstrating the new Concentrators are Cindy Mantle, Unit Secretary, and Deb Morgan RN, Director of Nursing.

 

 

Fairview is the recipient of a new set of hazard lights compliments of Communications Plus located in Norwich, CT.  Maintenance employee David Jones, seated in the truck, suggested that Fairview purchase hazard lights for safety reasons to use when plowing snow.  When Communications Plus learned of our need they stepped forward and made the donation. 

 

 

The 3rd annual Fairview Medal Dinner was held on Saturday, April 24.  Ninety guests enjoyed a delicious dinner provided by Gourmet Galley along with an awards presentation to winners Dr. Edward McDermott, Fairview Medical Director, and George P. Ververis, Jr., a member of Fairview’s Development Committee and a longtime supporter.  The Fairview Medal is awarded to individuals who have risen above their peers by providing invaluable assistance to Fairview, whether through personal effort, selfless gifts of time, financial aid, or service to residents.  Pictured are (L-R): Dr. Edward McDermott, James Malloy, Fairview Administrator, and George P. Thirteen Coast Guard Cadets visited Fairview on March 20.  They stayed for several hours visiting and talking with residents.  Three of the cadets are pictured with residents Lillian Fedus and Julia Sprafke in one of Fairview’s courtyards enjoying the beautiful surroundings and weather.  The Coast Guard Academy and its cadets continue to be wonderful friends to our residents.

 

Stonington Lodge member Mike Mondello recently donated a laptop computer to Fairview.  When he was made aware of the need for laptop computers he took it upon himself to purchase one for the home. The laptop will be used to allow residents to log into Fairview’s wireless internet system to check on emails or just surf the web.  Mike has been very generous in other ways since he joined the lodge a few months ago.  Thank you Mike!

 

Fairview hosted the monthly Groton Business Association meeting on January 21.  The GBA is a division of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce.  Over 40 local business men and women attended.  The GBA is an advocate for Groton businesses.  The monthly meeting held on the third Thursday of each month is an opportunity for individuals to promote their businesses in an informal atmosphere.  It is also a great networking opportunity.  Pictured are: (L-R) Jim Bates, Edward Jones Investments, Co- Chair of the GBA, Frank Winkler, Groton Utilities, Harry Colonis, Chelsea Groton Bank, Kevin Tobey, Cardinal Honda, Lorraine Sanborn, Independent Qivana Business Owner, Bill MacWilliams, Citadel Broadcasting, and Steve Luft, Cardinal Honda.

 

The Grand Lodge of CT I.O.O.F. made a $3,000.00 donation to the Fairview annual fund again in 2009.  This is a matching gift for donations up to $3,000.00.  This is the fourth year the Grand Lodge has made this commitment to Fairview.  This year’s annual fund which closes on December 31 will reach its goal of $16,000.00 thanks in great measure to this donation.  Pictured accepting the check from 2009 Connecticut I.O.O.F.  Grand Master Dan Robichaud is Fairview Administrator James Malloy (L). A testimonial was held for I.O.O.F. NewportFed Helps out Fairview

 The NewportFed Charitable Foundation donated $4,000 to Fairview to help pay for the installation of an automatic door opener in the new courtyard.   Fairview also recently received a $2,000 grant from the Chelsea Groton Bank Foundation and $1,000 from the Wal*Mart Foundation to help with this expense.  We now have enough funds to complete the automatic door opener plus install another new door leading into our greenhouse.  Pictured from NewportFed are Mary Lou Lamontagne, Business Development Officer, and Mildred Dion, VP & Branch Manager along with Fairview director of development David Brown.

The Chelsea Groton Bank Foundation recently made a $2,000.00 donation to Fairview to help defray the cost of making one of our courtyard doors open and close automatically.  This will greatly benefit all of our residents who use the courtyard.  Pictured is Fairview resident Frances Vera with Chelsea Groton Bank CEO, Duncan Stoddard.  Mrs. Vera is the President of the Residents’ Council.  She initiated the idea of making the door automatic.

 

Through the generosity of Fairview resident Alice Martin, a new keyboard is now available in the Recreation Department for residents to use.  The keyboard can be played manually, but also has pre-programmed songs that can be played as well.  We are very grateful to Alice for her thoughtfulness and generosity.
