The initial Marshall and Edie Kalin Scholarship has been awarded to Fairview LPN Shannon Benson.  This scholarship provided a $1,000.00 stipend to Shannon who is pursuing her Associate’s Degree in Nursing at Three Rivers Community College located in Norwich, CT.   Pictured presenting the award to Shannon is Hank Lucas, President of the Home, and Deb Morgan, Director on Nursing.

 

On January 26, 2012 the Savings Institute Financial Group made a $1,000.00 donation to help purchase a vital signs monitor.  This new monitor will replace an outdated one.  Pictured presenting the check to Fairview Administrator James Malloy is Kelly Mucci, Assistant VP for Business Development.

 

The granddaughter of Fairview resident Tita Rivera, Erin Stanley, along with friends Brooke and Matt Walker, delivered coca and crème cosmetic sets to all Fairview residents for Christmas.  Brooke recently relocated to the Groton area with her husband Matt, who is in the Navy.  She works for Mary Kay Cosmetics and offered to help make the holiday season brighter for her friend Erin’s grandmother and all of the other Fairview residents.

 

The Stonington Lodge #26 held its annual Christmas party for children in the Groton/Stonington area that might not otherwise have a very happy Christmas.  Fifty-five children and their families enjoyed a visit from Santa in the Fairview auditorium.  All received gifts and stockings stuffed with goodies.  Donations were made by generous sponsors to help Santa procure all of the toys. 

 

The Stonington Lodge #26 I.O.O.F. provided a complete Christmas dinner for a needy family in the Groton, CT area.  The lodge recently provided Thanksgiving dinners for families in Groton and Stonington as well.  This has been an annual activity for the past several years.  Pictured accepting the donation at the Groton Social Services Center is Heidi McSwain, Financial Assistant, along with (L) lodge members Randy Brooks and Rich Trudelle.

 

Cardinal Honda located in Groton, CT donated a second American Flag to Fairview in December, 2011.  The flag that was flying had become worn.  That flag was also donated by Cardinal Honda.  The new flag is 6’ x 10’ in size.  Pictured is Steve Luft, Cardinal Honda General Manager (r) presenting the new flag to David Brown, Director of Development at Fairview.

 

The Stonington Lodge #26 I.O.O.F. presented the Pawcatuck Connecticut Neighborhood Center with a complete turkey dinner for a needy family for Christmas.   The lodge collected the food items and delivered them to the PNC.  Pictured are lodge financial secretary, Randy Brooks, Vickie Anderson, PNC Executive Director, and Lodge Noble Grand, Rich Trudelle.

 

 

The Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut held its 9th annual antiques and collectibles auction on November 5.  The auction raised a net profit of $64,160.69.  All proceeds will be directed to Fairview’s unrestricted annual fund.  Pictured enjoying the evening’s festivities are Jim Malloy, Fairview Administrator, and guests. 

 

 

A Halloween party was held for Fairview residents complete with staff members and volunteers in costume along with a visit from School Break elementary school located in Ledyard, CT.  Pictured is Fairview resident Katherine Muller with several of the children along with Fairview staff members (L-R) Arlene Savago, Ruth Baretta and volunteer Katie Pierpaoli.

 

Members of the Fairview staff along with resident Carol Augustus participated in National Alzheimer’s Awareness Day.  A collection was taken to support the Eastern Connecticut Alzheimer’s Association.  Over $100 was donated.  Everyone who made a contribution wore a purple bracelet signifying their support.  Regional Alzheimer’s Association Coordinator, Stacy Chavis, thanked the staff at Fairview for showing commitment to this cause.

 

The “Employee of the Year” award was recently presented to CNA Gladys Smith.  Gladys was nominated by her manager for the exceptional job she does day in and day out.  She is always on time, never misses work when scheduled and goes above and beyond expectations for compassionate care to the residents she works with.  She has been a CNA at Fairview for nine years.  Gladys and her husband Brian will enjoy a week’s stay at The Cove at Yarmouth on Cape Cod compliments of Fairview.  Congratulations Gladys!

 

2011 FAIRVIEW CAR RAFFLE WINNER

Fairview held its sixth annual car raffle on July 9.  The lucky winner was Arlene Atwood who resides in Groton.  Her husband Joe has been buying a ticket every year.   Five-hundred and seven tickets were sold.  Total net proceeds were $30,199.90.  This breaks last year’s record sales by a whopping $5,922.90.  All proceeds will be deposited into Fairview’s unrestricted annual fund.  Total net proceeds from the six raffles held to date stands at just over $127,000.00.

 

Two new state-of-the-art bathing tubs are now operational at Fairview.  These tubs replaced smaller, outdated tubs that would not accommodate the needs of all residents.     The impetus behind the wonderful response to the fundraising effort to purchase the tubs was a special gift of $10,000.00 from the family of Odd Fellow Doug Frink who passed away unexpectedly in December.  Doug was a member of Nosahogan Lodge #21.  We are very grateful to Doug’s brothers, Randall and Alan, for their generosity in making this extraordinary donation in their deceased brother’s name.   Pictured is one of the new tubs.   A bronze plaque commemorating the first floor bathing area as the Douglas R. Frink Bathing Suite has been installed.   

The Dime Bank recently made a $1,000.00 grant donation to Fairview to help pay for the purchase of two resident bathing tubs.  Pictured receiving the ‘ceremonial check’ is director of development, David Brown, and New London Dime Bank Branch Manager Nancy Potter.

 

Fairview held its fourth annual Fairview Medal Dinner on Saturday, April 30.  The recipients this year were Richard Campbell, President of Odd Fellows Healthcare, Inc., parent of the Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut, Inc., and David Reindel, owner of Reindel Retirement Solutions.  The medals are presented to individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Fairview over an extended period of time.  One-hundred invited guests enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Gourmet Galley of Quaker Hill, CT.   Pictured (L-R) Richard Campbell, Dorothy Titus, Keith Cunningham, Tricia Cunningham, David Reindel, and Janet Reindel.
